Aside from Pokémon Friday, another weekly aspect of this blog will be Soundtrack Sunday. What is that, you ask? It is a weekly segment that highlights a soundtrack from a movie, TV show, or a video game. I think soundtrack music is some of the best music out there and it encapsulates all genres of music. The rule for this is pretty simple; it must have been part of a movie, TV show, or a video game. I am going to focus mainly on original scores, but I will occasionally dip into songs used in the aforementioned aspect. In this post will also be a link that will take you to the song (more than likely from YouTube) for your listening pleasure. And the Soundtrack of the Week is…
Coming from the same game as this week’s Pokémon of the Week did, it’s the theme song from Pallet Town in Pokémon Blue and Red. The composer is Junichi Masuda and it is very 8-bit sounding as this was made for the GameBoy. Pallet Town is the first town you visit in Pokémon Blue and Red and it is a short and simple tune that easily gets stuck in your head. I can remember playing Blue version when I was six and having my parents tell me to turn off the music because the tunes were so simple that they were sticking with them, too.
This tune was redone for Pokémon FireRed and Leaf Green and has been used in association with Pokémon many times, including being one of the main focuses of the Pokémon Symphonic Evolution Concert that I had the opportunity to see when it came to Pittsburgh. This tune is one of the most memorable from the Kanto region and its peaceful, flowing tune is a great way to portray the town where you first start your Pokémon journey. Most of the starting towns have peaceful and more easy-going music in the background to them, as most first towns or main-towns also have, but it was something that I truly noticed from Pokémon Blue in Pallet Town.
If you wish to listen to the tune, click here for the short video of it. I hope you get as much enjoyment out of this tune as I have!
If you wish to make a request for the Soundtrack of the Week, please observe the following notes:
All requests need to be made in the comment section of the most recent Soundtrack of the Week post.
The deadline for requests is Saturday at noon (ET).
I will be alternating between movie/TV and video game each week and I will not do the same universe within two weeks of itself.
